How Best To Handle Back Stiffness Caused Due To Disc Issues

By Isaac G. Baker

In most of the cases, the reason for back pain is the undeniable fact that a disc presses a nerve root. Some patients are lucky enough to become free of non-surgical treatments. Nonetheless others have to opt for the last rescue- surgery. Different types of back surgeries are used to cure back pain caused due to disk issues.

Discectomy is the most typical sort of back surgery conducted for those kinds of back pain that are caused due to disk problems. In this surgery, a part of the disc or the entire disc is removed from your body which has been exerting strain on your nerve root. The process entails making a little incision over the affected part and removing the sticking out disk. This type of surgery is used to treat sciatica and its success rate is sort of high.

There is another surgery called microdiscectomy, which is an adaptation of discectomy. This one is very much similar to discectomy. The only real difference in this surgery is the dimensions of the incision made to remove the disc, which is quite smaller. An operating microscope is utilized for the purpose. Due to the smaller size incision, the patient recovers sooner from the surgery. Microdiscectomy is among the hottest surgeries for sciatica.

Disc issues can also be rectified with the percutaneous disk removal process. An endoscope is used for this operation. The small tube is inserted through a tiny incision in the skin. A little camera attached to the tube, helps the doctors locate the problematical area and assess it. Once the area's been identified ; the surgeon will use special instruments to remove parts of the disk answerable for the effort of pressure on nerve roots. Once cut, the parts are flushed out thru suction through the tube.

Like everything else, this surgery incorporates its own set of pros and cons. The positive points include the indisputable fact that it takes little time to conduct this surgery without having to stay overnite in the surgery. Also, the time needed for recovery is nearly immaterial and lastly- it's a very cheap treatment for back trouble.

On the downside, this surgery may not offer exact results. Since the surgeon can't fully view the areas affected, certain loose discs may be missed. Also, even after the discs are cut, one cannot be certain the discs causing the difficulty are cut.

Finally, you must understand that each back surgery has its own positive and negative sides. You need to work out all the pros and cons of a surgery before you decide on any one. Nonetheless, you must also take into consideration the non surgical treatments for sciatica or any other back stiffness prior to going for a surgery.
