Learning More Information On Back Pain

By Dr Graeme Teague

Back pain is among the most common medical ailments in the United States that is next to headaches. Back pain could be the effect of a variety of illnesses or injuries and roughly 80 percent of all people experience a type of pain in the back, which can be continual, brief, serious or moderate. The most common of the complex factors behind this problem are muscle strains, accidents, and sport injuries.

You will find three kinds of back pain: acute, sub-acute and chronic, classified based on how long the pain sensation is experienced. Acute pain is usually brought on by minor injuries, lasts maximum Four weeks and may lead to sub-acute pain - lasting up to 12 weeks. You should visit a doctor should you experience chronic pain (lasting more than 12 weeks) because the causes could be more complex. Also, you should consider scheduling a scheduled appointment with your physician should you experience aching, stiffness across the spine, sharp pain in the neck, lower back pain after sitting or standing for long periods of time, or when the pain radiates in the back down the legs or buttocks.

One more reason of interest may be the presence of other symptoms alongside back pain. Commonly referred to as red flags by the health care providers, these symptoms include high fever, unexplained or unintended weight loss, and immunosuppression. For those who have suffered recent trauma, are using intravenous drugs, have osteoporosis, are experiencing a focal neurological deficit, have a history of cancer, or if the pain hasn't stopped in 6 weeks, then you must go to your physician immediately. Experiencing pain in the dorsal region is considered a medical emergency if you're over 70 years old, or for those who have suffered mild trauma and you're simply over 50 years old.

Throughout a medical visit, you'll be asked several questions about your pain and any other possible symptoms you may be experiencing, as well as some questions, most of which you may find uncomfortable. A comprehensive health background is going to be come up with by the doctor. A doctor can establish the cause of your lower back pain according to this health background, alongside a physical examination.

The physical examination involves checking reflexes, responses to heat, touches and pinpricks, or strength testing on a treadmill. You may even be scheduled for blood tests, X-rays, MRI or CT scans to verify or establish the exact cause.

Any form of pain is really distressing, specially in the back area, as it can critically interfere with your abilities of working, exercising or even standing. However, you need not worry too much about this, as there is a proper treatment for every ailment that brings about pain in the cervical, thoracic, lumbar or sacral region of the back. There's lots of actions for minimizing pain. It includes breathing tactics, spinal cord manipulation, posture training programs, music therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, anti-inflammatory drugs, physical workout, and pain killers. Operation is very rarely needed.

Treating back pain is not that difficult, but you need to take measures once you experience it, to make sure you will not experience any additional complications.

Nine Ways to Avoid Back Surgery

By David Greene, MD, CEO

Back pain has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. It is unbelievable that today alone there are over 1 million people in bed due to pain in the back. The cost annually is over $100 billion for back pain, and that includes both direct costs and indirect costs. With regards to spinal fusions, there has been a 15 fold increase over the last 10 years, and now over 400,000 are performed every year.

The vast majority of back surgeries in United States are elective. There are only really a few absolute indications for operating on one's back. The most prominent of these is called Cauda Equina syndrome, which is a condition that is an absolute surgical emergency. It involves pressure on the bottom part of the spinal cord and can affect permanent bowel and bladder function if not addressed right away. Unstable fractures of the back should be addressed in an emergency fashion as necessary. If the patient is having progressive neurologic deficit then that becomes a relative indication for surgery. Essentially what is being relayed here is that there are few relative and absolute indications for surgery, but the vast majority are actually elective.

Degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis are diagnoses that patients have that are the most typical ones back pain patients deal with. These diagnoses are never fatal, and truly represent quality of life problems. Non-surgical therapies should be tried completely prior to undergoing a spinal surgery.

Is there a magical option to avoid back surgery? No there is not. No treatments exists that are magically effective and there is no holy Grail that can help individuals avoid back surgery. Here are 9 treatment options that have literature to back them up which can effectively avoid surgery for patients.

1. Activity modification-this refers to the old adage of if it hurts don't do it. Or simply do something else. For instance, if you are participating in a high stress activities such as jogging, that is probably not the best activity to pursue with significant degenerative disc disease. You'll probably be better off switching over to cycling or swimming. But benign neglect goes along with this and represents ignoring the pain if it's not too bad. These elective types of conditions by and large don't need prophylactic intervention.

2. Physical therapy and aerobic exercise-PT can strengthen the muscles around the spine, called the paraspinal muscles, and take pressure off the painful areas. A number of studies have shown that aerobic exercise maintains excellent results and is probably the single best activity for degenerative disc disease patients. Patients may need interventional treatments prior to undergoing PT to ensure their ability to perform the exercises properly. Especially if they are experiencing acute exacerbation of the pain.

3. Chiropractic therapy-this is now being covered by more insurance companies every year. Over 10% of the US public is now under the care of a chiropractic doctor at any one point. The literature has shown that chiropractic adjustments are effective for pain relief for a number of low back pain conditions.

4. Medications-chronic narcotics are a terrible idea for back pain and may lead to side effects such as depression, tolerance, and addiction. A better idea is to only use them on a short-term basis and stick with the tried and true Tylenol and NSAIDS. These are lower risk and very effective especially if taken within the manufacturers dosing recommendations. Muscle relaxers can help on a short-term basis, and as of recently Neurontin and Lyrica are being used effectively for low back pain with good success. Non-narcotic medications such as Ultram are also being used successfully for back pain. It is a good idea to utilize medications in conjunction with a comprehensive pain management program. That way not just throwing pills at the problem and you can obtain better results with less medications and side effects.

5. Interventional pain management treatments-continue to improve every year these injection type of procedures and they can truly make the difference between whether or not a patient needs back surgery. These treatments may include epidural injections, medial branch blocks, radiofrequency ablation, facet blocks, or spinal cord stimulator's. Understanding What Laser Back Surgery Is

By Scott Pollock

With the initiation of advanced technologies and surgical improvements comes an easy way for many people to have a cure for serious and continual body conditions such as back pain. These improvements in surgery and medical technologies provide the creation of the least invasive, quick healing and least painful back surgery - laser back surgery.

Basics of Laser Back Surgery

Laser back surgery is a known substitute for the traditional types of spinal back surgeries. It uses a laser light beam to eliminate the bone spurs located in the spine for the nerves and the herniated disks to be mitigated appropriately.

This kind of surgery make use of nerve monitoring as well as computerized navigation throughout the body, which will enable the patient to relax and feel safe contrasting the traditional methods where it is more likely to cause human mistakes. In addition, laser back surgery is more secured given that each patient will be placed under sedation yet still be injected with anesthesia to avoid the feeling of pain.

Advantages of Laser Back Surgery

Many reasons are noted why most doctors are recommending Laser Back Surgery to their patients than the traditional back surgery. First is less intrusion because a laser beam will be monitoring and operating on the body. This makes the other unaffected internal organs in the body at lesser risk. No large incisions will be performed which will make the whole process faster. Generally, an hour is all it takes for the surgery to complete. Furthermore, the patient can go home after several hours for post surgery treatments. Minimal blood loss, no scarring and low rate of infection are other benefits of laser back surgery.

One of the common treatments for Laser Back Surgery is for Spinal Stenosis. It is a painful spinal condition that often occurs during aging, though sometimes it is a condition that arises at birth. Spinal Stenosis is the narrowing of the spinal canal which causes patients to feel pain in their lower back and in their buttocks.

Although such body conditions can be alleviated with other alternatives to surgery such as therapy and medications, severe cases often call for a Spinal Stenosis Laser Surgery. This will fully reduce the pain in the affected area as well as bring the condition of the patients back, back to normal. Doctors usually recommend Laser Spinal Stenosis Surgery to eliminate serious cases of back pain. Nevertheless, as with many laser surgeries, the entire procedure is safe, fast and has minimal down time. An impressive success rate among patients has proven laser spinal stenosis surgery to be an extremely viable alternative to traditional - and painful - back surgery.

Winter Back Problems and Head Injuries - How To Prevent?

By Alecia Vadenais

At winter times, most people cannot wait to go for the snow-covered mountain resorts for a wintertime getaway filled with sports like snowboarding, snow skiing, snowmobiling and/or sledding. Though I don't like to put a damper on people's enthusiasm for skiing, I do like to warn them in regards to the perils of serious, in some cases fatal, head injuries that may occur while in these high-speed skiing.

Needless to say, head injuries, on any degree of severity, can take place all year round from sports activities or even just from a fall off a ladder. Still, doing a number of winter sports establishes the ideal stage for a life-threatening head trauma with the mix of ice, snow and fast moving body mechanics. Winter vacation resort visitors are particularly at high risk for these injuries as they may not be very experienced and quite often are taking training in the sport the very first time.

With the start of winter weather, a whole new danger exists its unpleasant head for those with fundamental structural problems related to their back. The decrease in temperature can impact our hydration levels and the overall tone of our muscles, but most importantly ice is everywhere and may lead to a great deal of back problems from the trauma... even if you don't really fall down. How can this be?

Why don't we start with the fall. It is quite obvious that in case you fall down, you'll probably affect your spine. The impact and shock of striking the ground can relocate things out of place. It's that movement of vertebrae out of place that can cause back problems. The effect may not happen promptly. You may just discover that "something is not quite right," but not ample that you choose you should do something about it right away.

It's these warnings that are the easiest to ignore. More often than not people will disregard the warning signs and just hold off until they are bending down to do a simple task like picking up socks when they unexpectedly cannot move. They're doing something "dangerous" like tossing a small cushion when their back seizes up. These are the basic types of reports I see each day. That abrupt seizing up of the muscle tissue may also toss things out of place. The muscles attach to the spine and when they tense up, knot up, or spasm they are going to cause the joint to stop operating as it is made. Time for you to see local chiropractors Fremont.

The chiropractor will identify the parts of your spine that have been misplaced, guide them back into the right position, as well as re-establish the body's normal function. The alleviation comes about rather quickly typically. A problem captured early is often simpler to deal with before the disaster occurs. Not to mention how much a frozen back can ruin your whole week.

Sports activities of all types, both winter and summer, can be a lot of fun and provide good, healthy workout out in the fresh air with your friends or family. Still, they can be also the source of severe back pain and head injury that can make you completely disabled or worse. Take safety measures and get medical help as needed.

Find Out About Back Ache and Pillow Support

By Gordon Benn

Everybody these days appear to have some sort of Lower Back PainProblems but for some unknown reason most individuals don't seek aid. If you are like the majority then you'll simply put a pillow behind your back when you are sitting on a tough chair or sitting on the couch watching T. V. But , most important things first, putting a soft pillow behind your back won't give you the support you need and so it is not helping you that much.

If you're employing a pillow for back support then desist from doing such. The explanation Why I say stop is because the pillow is most likely not even doing anything and the explanation Why I say this is due to the fact that the majority of the time they do not. The majority of the time folk use pillows that are not firm enough to guard your back and due to this the pillow is just making you think that your back feels better when in fact it's not feeling better at all.

Two excellent methods to defend your back is by using a lumbar support cushion or even a lumbar support roll. The nice thing about both of these is they are supposed to be used on your back and due to this they'll provide the support that your back wishes while you sit down. If you are like plenty of people then you do not need to go out and spend the cash on one of those things but the reality is it is better to do this than to keep having back issues. Trust me on this one, I've seen it happen to lots of great athletic folk.

Tips On Shielding Your Back

Stand For A While - If you're typically sitting then I highly recommend that you stand up for a little bit. The benefit of standing up is to give your back a little break and to lengthen your backbone.

Use Back Support - Remember what I claimed, you've got to use something to help to support your back. I'd strongly recommend either getting a back brace or getting a lumbar support cushion because these are going to be your best chance on keeping your back strong and healthy.

The only way to keep your back safe and healthy is to always support it with something. If you can not stand up for a while then just make absolutely sure that you have some kind of lumbar support cushion there to help you out.

Mid Back Pain Relief through Chiropractic Care

By Michael Pritsker

Mid back pain is pain felt in the area below the neck and above the waist. The middle back is composed of 12 vertebrae. This part of the back is called the Thoracic Spine. The mid back is naturally strong and stable. The elastic cartilages which are found between each bone serve as shock absorbers and are called disc. The most common problem found in this section of the back is called Scoliosis.

There are many different problems that could trigger mid back pain. The most common is, muscle strain. Other factors that might trigger mid back pain include: poor posture, emotional stress, improper lifting, accidental trauma, tightening of the diaphragm, prolong standing, improper sleeping habits, poor intake of sugar/carbohydrates, and overexertion.

Persistent mid back pain could indicate a serious condition wherein if it continues for more than a couple of weeks, it would need medical advice. If the middle part of the spine is directly injured, it can cause pinched spinal nerves, therefore creating malfunction of the organs. Within this spinal region, there are pairs of spinal nerves that emit blood and nutrition to organs such as the stomach, liver, gall bladder, and small intestine. Problems in communication from the nerves to these organs, may lead to numerous digestive disorders. There are also nerves in the mid back that lead to the heart which can bring heart irregularities, if T1-T4 spinal nerves are disturbed.

Upon examination, it is common to find a certain type of back misalignment. Mid back pain is a common problem like low back pain. Back pain of that kind can be addressed using chiropractic treatment. Chiropractic care has been highly successful in treating patients seeking alternative health care. Without the use of drugs or scalpels, a chiropractor does multiple exams and takes x-rays to identify the underlying cause of the patient's problem.

Once the x-rays are reviewed, the doctor will go over the treatment plan with the patient. When the patient agrees with the treatment protocol, the chiropractor will perform an adjustment by applying precise and gentle pressure to the specific areas of misalignment. Other forms of conservative treatments that chiropractors may use are massage, electrical stimulation, hot/cold packs, and ultra sound.

Additional services chiropractors provide include exercises, pelvic stabilization, ergonomics, and nutritional education. Exercise and rehabilitation are very important to prevent the pain from coming back. Many patients experience relieved pain after a few visits. Other patients have such positive results with chiropractic care that they choose to continue regularly treatment to keep their body in optimal condition.

Understanding The Causes, Symptoms and Treatment of Back Pain

By Scott Pollock

One of the major conditions that many people around the world suffer from is back pain. This kind of body ailment hinders anyone from doing the things they are used to doing easily. Even mundane tasks that enable you to work effectively such as bending over to pick something up and really any movement of the waist, hips and the back can become actions that create shooting pain throughout your body. Since daily activities often necessitate movement of the body, back pain is a condition that you are never free of.

Back pain can be felt in the; neck, upper back, lower back or even on the tailbone. This pain originates from the spine, muscles, nerves, bones or other parts of the spinal column which have altered from their natural, perfect state. Often back pain can occur quite suddenly but it can also become a chronic and continuous pain that never goes away if untreated.

Typically, back pain is more of a symptom of a disorder in the body, usually in the muscles or nerves of the spine. But, back pain can also be caused by other abnormalities in the body like in the chest or in the abdomen. Back pain is no longer about movement in the body but can sometimes be caused by simply sitting for many long hours.

Herniated disc is one common cause of back pain that happens because of the degeneration of the spinal discs. This kind of pain is brought bu infections in the bones, tumors and inflammation of the nerves - all these initiate acute back pain without any warning.

Quite a few symptoms can help any person identify a back condition though, you must not easily assume that every pain you feel is because of a back condition. Even if we feel pain in our back after sitting for longer hours behind the desk, we still cannot assume that the back pain we feel is at its critical level. Typically, such pain in the back can be alleviated through a massage or an application of pain ointments.

An acute back pain is felt by a person if the pain is already continuing and is spreading to the buttocks and/or legs. Another sign of back pain is when the pain is constantly getting worst in every movement you do. Weakness and numbness in the legs and in the spine is one other symptom of a serious back condition.

When symptoms have been recognized in the body, it is always best to seek assistance from back specialists to help assess the condition of the back and also to offer treatments that would help diminish, if not remove, the pain in the body. At first, doctors will provide non-surgical treatments however if chronic pain continues in the future, a surgery is required. An increasingly prevalent substitute to the traditional and invasive form of back surgery is laser surgery.

A laser back surgery is one of the latest, least invasive, fast and convenient surgeries for back pain. Traditional surgery can generate trauma to patients due to its large incision requirement but with laser surgery, a very small incision is required to perform the surgery as much is done with video cameras and - of course - a laser versus a scalpel. Since there will be a smaller incision involved, patients recover much faster and are often able to go home several hours after the surgery and simply return for follow ups in the future to make sure everything has healed properly and that the back pain is truly alleviated.

Invasive And Non-Invasive Ruptured Disc Treatment

By Herminia Lawrence

Back pain can be a serious problem. If you have an excruciating pain in your back that cannot be relieved by pain killers or inflammatory drugs, it could be a 'slipped' disc. A 'slipped' disc is a herniated or damaged and it can be serious and often will be extremely painful. Diagnosis and bulging disc treatment of this type of problem is very important as it can lead to severe symptoms.

It is most common for the problem to occur in the lumber region. This is because we often lift heavy objects incorrectly and put serious strain on the lower back. Knowing how to lift things correctly, having strong stomach muscles and maintain good posture are always ways to help prevent this kind of injury.

Disc treatment resulting from injury is determined by a wide variety of symptoms depending on the location of the injury. One of the most common is the sharp shooting pains of Sciatica, usually running down the back of the legs. Other symptoms include tingling in the hands or feet, or general pain in the area around the bulging disc. A herniated disc can result in a lack of strength in either the arms or legs, and in untreated cases to varying degrees of paralysis.

The vertebrae in the spine are cushioned by discs which comprise of a hard shell filled with a jelly like substance. These discs act as buffers between the bones to stop them rubbing together. If the outer casing is damaged the jelly inside moves to create a bobble which presses on the nerves running alongside the spine causing pain.

In the case of a large protrusion, it can cause compression of the spinal column affecting the nerves controlling the bladder and in extreme cases, paralysis. It is vital to determine the exact location and size of the protrusion before treatment progresses.

One way to treat minor herniations is with anti-inflammatory drugs combined with exercises to squeeze the bulge back into place. Yoga, physiotherapy and osteopathy may all be helpful combined with the drugs. Manipulation of the spine can only be performed once the tense muscles which are protecting the damaged area have been relaxed. Following a treatment it is important to maintain good posture with an arch in the back as much as possible to keep the disc in position while the split heals. Wearing a posture brace which supports and aligns the spine is often recommended in the early stages of treatment.

A more radical solution which might be required if the damage is severe is surgery to remove the disc and fuse the vertebrae. This should be considered a last resort for recurring problems as it often means that pressure is put on the spine higher up and the injury can reoccur there. A discectomy or microdiscectomy may be suitable to relieve the nerve compression; a back specialist should be able to advise you on which procedure is most applicable.

Before starting treatment you must know the extent and location of the damaged area. X-rays do not normally show enough detail of the herniated disc, and MRI scans are more commonly used in diagnosis.

By Gordon Benn

It does not matter if you're 18 or eighty; everybody experiences lower back pain from time to time. The issue is, are you going to suffer, or are you going to do something about it? There are several sorts of exercise and medical treatments, so no one must live with this pain.

To begin many of us need to grasp the lower back pain causes. Very likely if you're suffering from lower back pain you have experienced some kind of damage to your back. This shock can be something as simple as strain from wrong lifting or something as acute as a vehicle accident. The unlucky fact is that either extreme can be agonizing and relief can feel a million miles away.

What everyone needs to understand is that the back is made from a sequence of muscles and if we don't take care to keep these muscles powerful, then we will at last do some damage to them. It is next to impossible to move without involving the back muscles, so they're being used consistently and there's a greater prospect of us damaging them.

So where can you find lower back pain relief? The place to start once an injury has occurred is with your doctor, they can usually prescribe medication and an easy stretching regiment for lower back pain treatment. Your doctor can also recommend somebody that may be a specialist in soft tissue wounds.

Once the back is injured, your issues may increase without proper treatment. If you damage the vertebra or the discs of the back then infrequently the only option is back surgery and that means a long recovery time, and nobody wants that. Learn the right way to lift, using the knees and muscles of the leg rather than the back. Do some exercises and stretching designed to reinforce the back.

3 Life-style Problems That Cause Back Pain

By Leroy Lombard

A few of the people think that back pain is just part of growing older. They think that's just unavoidable and that everybody is just doomed to develop pinched nerves, herniated discs, and sciatica as part of growing older. But I do not believe this is the case. There are actually little habits and lifestyle decisions that people make that can result in these back problems. Here are 3 of them:

First, is an inactive lifestyle. This possibly isn't going to shock you, but if you spend your life sitting, then don't be surprised if you get back trouble. Sure, maybe you've got a job where you have to sit at a desk for 8 hours a day. But that doesn't mean that you can't get up and stretch or walk over to the water cooler every once in awhile.

Plus, what do you do when you're not working? For most folks nowadays, you probably sit in your car and return home where you sit in front of the TV for several more hours. Sure your job won't be helping your back, but what you do when you're off the clock probably isn't helping either. Take some time to get some exercise. Try biking to work if you live close enough or try working out or playing a sport in your spare time. If you need to get motivated to get out, find ways of doing things you love to do already.

Next, is poor habits. Do you keep your wallet in your back pocket and sit down twenty four seven at a desk? Do you have a habit of carrying a back-pack on one shoulder? Do you slouch or have poor posture? These are all habits that may cause back trouble.

All of these small habits may seem innocuous, but what they actually do is they take your backbone out of symmetrical alignment. You want to use your body uniformly on either side, when you don't, our bones are pushed out of alignment and added pressure is placed on your nerves. Additionally, this may result in muscle imbalances which will further push your backbone out of alignment over a period of time.

The way to handle this is to pay more notice to how you hold your body throughout the day. Remember, the ideal way to do things will use your body evenly and symmetrically. Try and avoid any activities that favor one side of your body over another, especially activities that involve your spine.

Finally, is dietary habits. This might be surprising to some folk, but did you know that specific foods can make contributions to swelling. When your body is inflamed it can result in added stress on your nerves in your back, which could already be stressed from other life-style decisions. Typical "unhealthy" foods like junk food and packaged food are loaded with fats and have a high glycemic index. These things cause irritation and may just be what pushes you over the edge to suffer from back trouble.

On the opposite side of things, foods containing Omega 3 fats and anti-oxidants basically work to reduce inflammation in your body. Examples of these foods are fish (especially salmon), walnuts, and blueberries.

Therefore if back pain seems to be an issue in your life and no quantity of stretching exercises appears to help, consider that rather than attempting to combat the problem with stretches you could just need to stop doing the things which cause back trouble to start with.

5 steps towards purchasing pillows that reduce the chances of back and neck pain

By Jean Anders

Folk spend ages finding shoes so their feet will not hurt. By the same principle, you want to find pillows so your back and neck won't hurt. So - buy your pillows carefully by going through the following steps:

1) Select a pillow from a store that lets you return the pillow regardless of whether you have slept on it. The cheapest pillow is pricey if it just does not work. And, the best pillows will come from a retailer that also makes sure that their pillow won't go flat. And, be absolutely sure that the company offers a good range of heights and sizes.

2) Buy a pillow to fit your body proportions. Everybody's size differs so no one pillow is will fit everyone. A big man has bigger proportions and, needs a bigger pillow. A little, petite lady will need a thinner pillow.

3) Choose a pillow that fits how you sleep. To reduce your chances of neck and back pain, you need to concentrate on getting a pillow that keeps your neck and backbone aligned. So:

- if you are a back-sleeper, you want a pillow that fits the back of your neck while stopping your head from tilting forward. If you can see the your feet while resting on your pillow, the pillow is too thick, which implies that your back and neck will not be in alignment.
- if you are a side-sleeper, you need a pillow with a higher loft that fits between your head and shoulder. If you can feel your head tilt down or up, then you don't have the correct size pillow. That head bend will improve your chances of neck and back pain the following day.
- if you sleep on your tummy then you want a pillow that is thinner. The best pillow for a stomach sleeper is one that does not cause your neck and back to bend.

4) Try the pillow for a couple of days. If the pillow isn't comfortable and doesn't keep your spine and neck in alignment, then return your pillow for a different size (you did do step one , didn't you?).

5) If you buy a pillow from a company that does not supply a guarantee against going flat, then consider replacing your pillow at least each year or so, since most pillows will go flat in that time frame.

Take care of yourself and get a good pillow that can help to reduce those back and neck pains while getting that deep, REM, sleep you want. You'll be happy that you did!

Chiropractor In Minneapolis Reveals New Safe Approach For Back Pain Problems

By Cristopel Obedencia

When looking for relief from back pain, many people have turned to a Minneapolis chiropractor. Chiropractors have helped patients deal with the pain for many years. With newer and safer approaches for relieving back problems, the doctor of chiropractic can help back problems stemming from many causes.

Severe spinal pain can occur in a person of any age. In fact, the birth process itself is a common cause of body pain. Other common causes can include whiplash, scoliosis, degenerative disc problems, pinched nerves, or accidents. In addition to providing help for symptoms, a chiropractic doctor may help patients find relief from numbness in the body, carpal tunnel problems or headaches.

Many times lower spinal column pain is attributed to such causes as degenerative disc disease, muscle strains or herniated discs. At some point during the lifetime, five of every six adults will experience pain in the lower back. One of the leading causes of missed work is pain in the lower back.

Acute spine-related pain often manifests as muscle spasms in the back that can be very distressing. The spasm may last a few hours or a few days. Chiropractic care is often an effective way for patients to find relief. Restoring balance to the back can prevent this pain from developing into chronic pain.

Chronic back pain persists for 60 days or more. In some patients, the pain in the back continues to get worse each day. Patients may have pain flares that differ each day. While this type of pain is common in athletes and heavy laborers, it is also found among office workers who remain in the same position for the entire work week.

When pain in the back strikes, a Minneapolis chiropractor helps patients to find effective and safe help. The procedures used by the doctor of chiropractic speed healing. Spinal adjustments can be used to promote better results.
